About

I live and work in Cumbria, northernmost of the Deep North counties. This explains the preponderance of animals, snow, ice and rain within my photographs (and the lack of sun and people). I have at times coerced my wife, friends and work colleagues into appearing in my photos, I particularly enjoy taking portraits.

I have been taking photographs over the last five years or so following a long break since my childhood. Back then  I had a number of very cheap film cameras between the ages of 8 and 18. These days I take photos for my own interest and pleasure although it’s always incredibly gratifying if anyone else appreciates them.

  1. I love the oldness in your photos. For me they seem very special is some ways. I think they are very professional photos. Thank you for coming to my site. Good luck with your website!

  2. Great photos on your blog. Love the deep and rich colors in your pictures and your excellent use of blur and contrast.

  3. Just found your site. Lovely! Your photos inspire me to try more portraits — not my strong point.
I look forward to seeing more of your creations.

Perhaps you would like to check out some of my style at: http://www.terrasseaudrey.wordpress.com

    • Thanks Audie, will have a good look at your site too. Are you on the Paleo diet? Looks like it from one of your sites? Interesting stuff, I have recently started to try and move towards this for health reasons also..

      • Yes, Richard, I and four of my sisters are on Paleo. I “saw the light” about 3-4 years ago, and I spread the word. It’s the way to go as far as I’m concerned. Thirty pounds lighter, full of energy, healthy in all respects, ….
It’s nice to meet you. 🙂 At the risk of showing my ignorance, I will ask you, where are Cumbria and the Deep North Counties? I’m in Quebec, Canada.

      • Cumbria is the far north of England, in the northwest- the county borders Scotland is probably more similar to Scotland than London or the Home Counties.

Good to hear the Paelo is working out for you. Will read your entries for tips. I’m missing starchy foods so far but am staying generally true to the principles- event made my own sauerkraut!!

Anyway – nice to meet you too!

  4. I love your work! May I post a link to your blog on mine? I would love to share some of your photos.
I have a rather eclectic photography and craft blog at: http://quirkyartistblog.wordpress.com/

  5. Your photos are soooo amazing! Keep up the good work!

    • Thanks so much. Will head over and check your blog out too…

      • May I ask you which model of camera you used for these pictures? I am thinking of getting one. I had been surviving on my 5MP camera phone and my friend’s Ixus:)

      • Most of them are shot on m43 cameras such as the Olynpus E-M5 or the Olympus E-P1. Some of the recent ones are using a Canon 6D. I would have thought you’d be looking for something smallish and unobtrusive given your travelling? The quality of photos from m43 and their small size would be a good comb…

  6. Thanks a lot:). Will check out those models!

  7. Outstanding shots – not sure how I’ve missed your blog! Anyway, found it now. 🙂

  8. Great blog with lots of fabulous and very inspiring photographs. I need to to see the photography in other ways and expand my horizons. Regards.
